The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
