Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Aims to Address the Series' Biggest Issue
JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original film. Instead, the latest film from the Jujutsu Kaisen supernatural series serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season merged with the initial episodes of its next season, which kicks off the Culling Games arc from the manga series. This makes Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the quickest way to see the start of the upcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The feature launches in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.
The Culling Games Storyline
In the Culling Game arc, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is charged by sorcery authorities to execute his peer Yuji Itadori. Their long-awaited clash occurs for the very first time on the silver screen, and if the artists at the production house have an exceptional piece as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for audiences this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.
The Thunderclap Debate
"Thunderclap episodes" from the second season is frequently praised as among the best moments in anime history, in spite of the significant debate in last year when the series first premiered. It was stated that the artists were facing harsh deadlines to the point, and the released version that aired at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the artists initially intended.
The Legendary Fight
The episode features a heavily anticipated fight between two elite magic wielders, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It features experimental animation, masterful camera work, and dynamic fight choreography. A later physical media version gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to flesh out the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could improve the battle even more. However, viewing the new trailer, it's unclear if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be seen on the largest display with the best presentation possible.
Season Two Success
The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become 2024's anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the topic of conversation for multiple weeks in the animation fandom. Viewers knew about the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People anxiously checked to see if the Blu-ray, launched in mid-March, would add any additional scenes to the sequence or to see if it was improved in any way, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside reshades, smoother movement, and different color grading.
The Feature's Advantage
But the Blu-ray can only improve what has previously shown in the original airing, whereas the film has the potential to do the sequence justice with further changes and new animations entirely.
A Crowning Achievement
Currently, these episodes act as the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the studio, notably because of the issues they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games storyline is a much-expected plotline of the coming year. If the studio wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the show's top scene once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've witnessed to date.
