Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
